2022 Florida Motorcycle Safety Statistics
Many motorcycle riders are aware of the risks they take by riding. Unfortunately, riders face a substantially higher risk on Florida roadways. Here are some statistics that all Florida drivers should be aware of.
Motorcycles Account for Only 3% of Registered Vehicles
There are far fewer motorcycles on the road than any other type of vehicle. Motorcycles are involved in just 2% of all crashes in Florida and they account for just 1% of all vehicle miles traveled.
Motorcycle Accident Fatalities Account for 18% of Florida Accident Fatalities
Of the 3,331 accident fatalities in Florida in 2020, 18% of those were motorcycle accident fatalities. Passenger vehicle accidents accounted for 24% of all accident fatalities.
Florida Has the Highest Number of Motorcycle Accident Fatalities of Any State
Not only does Florida have the highest number of motorcycle accident fatalities, no other state has come close for several years now.

Motorcycle Riders Are 29x More Likely to Die in an Accident
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has determined that motorcyclists are 29 times more likely to die than people in passenger vehicles. This can be attributed to the lack of safety features and no restraints to prevent being ejected.
Alcohol-Impaired Driving Can Be Deadly in Any Vehicle
Alcohol should never be combined with a motor vehicle. According to the NHTSA, alcohol was a factor in 76% of Florida’s motorcycle fatalities in 2020. Stability control, awareness, and the ability to think and react quickly are all necessary for motorcycle riders. All of these abilities are dulled by alcohol. No matter what motor vehicle you drive you should not do so after drinking.
